Built on a Firm Foundation

An integral part of The Finch Companies, Peoria Metro Construction has roots back to the early 1940s, when young Nyle and Lyle Finch returned from war and put their two trucks to work delivering coal to private homes.  In the years following, their trucking fleet expanded to accommodate larger customers.  As the business grew, so did the capabilities and services of the Finch brothers.

By the 1950s, the brothers added cranes and other earthmoving equipment to the fleet as excavation and site work soon became core competencies.  Additional land was acquired under the current Interstate 74 bridge in Peoria, IL where they began dock operations, which expanded their material handling and transportation capabilities.

Through the 1960s and 1970s, growth and expansion of services continued.  Pile driving and foundational work along the Illinois River as well as utility towers throughout the Midwest kept the Finch’s busy.  About this time, they also embarked on the development of the Duck Creek Power Plant in Canton, IL.

In 1988, Peoria Metro Construction was established, further expanding the construction services and capabilities of The Finch Companies into the commercial general contracting and construction management arena.

Today, collectively, The Finch Companies remain family owned and operated as they are headed by the second generation of the Finch family.  Lyle’s son, Tom Finch – President, has been in the business for over 40 years and leads all company operations.  While the landscape and marketplace continue to change, our values and principles still hold true.  Our word is our word, we stand behind everything we do and the quality in which we accomplish it.  We build on relationships first and foremost, and treat our clients with the utmost respect just as Nyle and Lyle did from the beginning.

It’s a simple, old-fashioned way of doing things, but it’s served our operations and our clients well for more than 65 years.
